What stain will I need for visualizing spots on TLC plate for Kaempferol?


I tried doing a TLC plate with 20% methanol in chloroform as the solvent and I used H2SO4 as the stain afterwards and after heating the plate I still could not visualize the spots. My samples include the flavonoids: Kaempferol, Kaempferitrin, and Kaempferide. Could you also please state a scientific journal which supports the method. Thank you!!! God Bless.

Leeks – Amazing Allium

Not much research has been done into the health benefits of leeks. Yet leeks have been in the news in recent days. UK researchers used their fibres to see if leeks could play a role in halting the development of Crohn's Diease. Although they were shown to have no significant effect in this area, leeks are known to have varied health benefits.

Leeks, an allium vegetable, offer the unique combination of flavonoids and sulphur-containing nutrients. Their flavonoid, kaempferol, protects our blood vessel linings from damage. Leeks have more kaempferol than white onions but red onions have a higher count of this flavonoid. The concentrations of flavonoid are found in the lower leaf and bulb portion.

In addition, leeks have concentrated levels of antioxidant polyphenols. Leeks may have less concentration of polyphenols than other allium vegetables but they rank high compared to other vegetables. The total polyphenol content (TPC) of leeks averages about 33 milligrams of gallic acid equivalents (GAE) per 100 grams. That count compares to carrots with 10 milligrams and cherry tomatoes at 24 milligrams. Leeks still impress with their polyphenol count.

As well, leeks are a good source of manganese and vitamin C and vitamin B6 as well as iron and folate. They make a great contribution to your health – especially if you include them in your diet on a regular basis.

Leeks are in the same family (allium) as garlic and onions and have similar positive effects on your body. The allium family is believed to help with atherosclerosis, obesity, type 2 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and allergic airway inflammation. Considering their 'family' connection, it is assumed that leeks would play a role in protection against certain kinds of cancer including colorectal cancer.
